The obligation
A person who trades in food must ensure that it is safe and suitable.
Section 14 sets the primary duty of persons who trade in food: the food they trade in must be safe and suitable. Part 1 of the Act states this primary duty alongside the Act's purpose, application and definitions, and the principles for persons with regulatory roles. The Minister, the chief executive and territorial authorities must take into account principles including productive working relationships and a co-ordinated, aligned approach to their roles. The Act replaces the Food Act 1981.
