The obligation
Covers pre-operational checks, operator licensing, load limits, exclusion zones, wind limits, communication, and crane-specific operational controls required by the Code.
The Code requires PCBUs to ensure tower cranes are operated by licensed persons who conduct pre-operational checks, observe rated load limits and dynamic load charts, maintain exclusion zones, adhere to out-of-service wind speeds, and use effective communication systems with riggers/dogmen. Operational controls, emergency stops, and warning devices must be functional (WHS Reg 210–213). The Code also addresses multiple crane operation and proximity to overhead services.
