The obligation

PCBUs must implement inspection and maintenance programs for tower cranes in accordance with the Code, relevant Australian Standards, and WHS Reg 213.

The Code (aligned to WHS Reg 213 and AS 1418.4, AS 2550.4, and related standards) requires PCBUs to establish scheduled inspection and maintenance programs covering structural components, mechanical and electrical systems, and lifting attachments. Pre-use daily checks, periodic inspections, and major inspections after significant events (e.g. overload, severe storm) are addressed. Records must be kept. Third-party inspection by a competent person is required at specified intervals.
