The obligation
WA Code of Practice requiring surface rock support in underground mine high headings (≥3.5 m), integrated with existing ground reinforcement systems.
Published by WorkSafe WA under the Mines Safety and Inspection Act 1994, this Code mandates installation of surface rock support (mesh, shotcrete, or other surface treatment) in all WA underground mines where headings are nominally ≥3.5 m high, unless a documented geotechnical risk assessment justifies a departure. Support must cover backs and sidewalls to 3.5 m from the floor. The Code targets gravity-induced rockfall only; dynamic failure mechanisms are excluded and must be managed separately.
