The obligation
PCBUs must provide adequate mechanical ventilation in spray booths and spray rooms to control chemical vapour concentrations below flammable limits and exposure standards.
The Code mandates that spray painting must be conducted in properly designed and maintained spray booths or spray rooms with mechanical ventilation that captures and exhausts hazardous vapours and overspray. Ventilation systems must be designed to maintain concentrations of flammable vapours below 25% of the LEL, and chemical exposures below WES. Systems must be inspected, tested, and maintained regularly. Natural ventilation alone is generally insufficient.
