The obligation
Where there is a risk of falling 3 metres or more or the roof slope is over 26°, a SWMS and a fall prevention device such as edge protection must be in place before work starts.
If a fall prevention device is not reasonably practicable, a work positioning system must be used, or if that is not reasonably practicable, a fall arrest system. Administrative controls on their own are not permitted where there is a risk of falling 3 metres or more. WorkSafe states it is reasonably practicable to have edge protection in place where there is a risk of falling 2 metres or more from a scaffold, fixed stair, landing, suspended slab, formwork or falsework.
