The obligation
From 1 July 2024, operators of telehandlers must hold a high-risk work licence under the OHS Regulations 2017.
A 2024 amendment to the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017 added telehandler operation to the list of classes of high-risk work requiring a licence. From 1 July 2024, any person operating a telehandler in a Victorian workplace must hold the relevant HRW licence class. Employers must not direct or permit an unlicensed person to operate a telehandler. Transitional arrangements applied for a period. Action required: verify all telehandler operators are licensed.
