The obligation
Employers must immediately notify WorkSafe Victoria of prescribed serious injuries, dangerous incidents, and workplace deaths under the OHS Regulations 2017.
Part 5 of the OHS Regulations 2017 requires employers (and self-employed persons) to immediately notify WorkSafe Victoria when a workplace fatality, serious injury/illness, or dangerous incident occurs. Written notification must follow within 48 hours. The scene must be preserved pending investigation. Prescribed serious injuries include fractures, amputations, serious burns, and injuries requiring in-patient hospital admission. Penalties apply for failure to notify.
