The obligation
A 2024 amendment to the OHS Regulations prohibits the use, supply, and manufacture of engineered stone containing crystalline silica above the threshold, effective 1 July 2024.
Amendments commencing 1 July 2024 introduced a prohibition on the use, supply, and manufacture of engineered stone containing more than 1% crystalline silica by weight in Victoria, in line with the national Safe Work Australia decision. Duty-holders must cease all engineered stone bench-top fabrication, installation, or finishing work. Transitional provisions apply to pre-existing contracts. Employers must review their supply chains and workplace practices to ensure compliance.
