The obligation
Food businesses must comply with the Food Safety Standards in Chapter 3 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code as applied under the Food Act 1984 (Vic).
The Food Act 1984 (Vic) applies the Food Safety Standards contained in Chapter 3 of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (FSANZ) as law in Victoria. These standards cover food handling, storage, temperature control, hygiene, skills and knowledge of food handlers, and food premises requirements. Breaches of the Food Safety Standards constitute offences under the Act and may attract penalties including fines and prosecution.
