PCBUs must provide first aid equipment, facilities, and trained first aid officers appropriate to workplace hazards and workforce size under the OHS Act 2004 and the Compliance Code.
Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic) and the First Aid in the Workplace Compliance Code (Edition 1, November 2021), PCBUs (including employers) must assess workplace hazards and workforce size to determine adequate first aid provision. This includes supplying appropriately stocked first aid kits, designated first aid rooms where required, and ensuring sufficient trained first aid officers. Independent contractors may be deemed employees under s 21(3) OHS Act.
