The obligation

Manufacturers and importers of hazardous chemicals must prepare a compliant SDS before the chemical is first manufactured or imported for supply in SA.

Under WHS Regulation 330 (SA), a manufacturer or importer must prepare a safety data sheet (SDS) for each hazardous chemical before it is first manufactured or imported. The SDS must meet the content and format requirements of the Code of Practice and the GHS. The duty-holder must also provide the current SDS to any person likely to be affected by the hazardous chemical who requests it.
