The obligation
Prohibits discharge, deposit or entry of pollutants into SA waters in breach of prescribed quality objectives; duty-holders must take all reasonable and practicable measures to prevent water pollution.
The WQP 2015 imposes strict obligations on persons undertaking activities likely to affect water quality. It prohibits acts or omissions causing water pollution inconsistent with environmental quality objectives set in the Policy. Duty-holders (individuals, businesses, operators of scheduled premises) must identify risks and implement controls. Breach can attract enforcement action under the Environment Protection Act 1993, including environment protection orders and significant penalties.
