The code mandates practical guidance for identifying and controlling major hazards in sugar mill operations, including mechanical, chemical, thermal and electrical risks.
The Sugar mill safety Code of Practice 2024 sets out risk management obligations for PCBUs operating sugar mills in Queensland. It covers control of major hazards including: rotating/moving machinery guarding; confined space entry; hazardous chemicals; thermal hazards from steam and hot liquids; electrical safety; and falls from height. PCBUs must apply the hierarchy of controls. The code supplements, but does not replace, obligations under the WHS Act 2011 and WHS Regulation 2011.
