The obligation
Workstations must suit the person and the task, and work areas should give enough clear space to move freely and evacuate quickly.
Space needs depend on the physical actions of the task, movement while working, sitting or standing, access to workstations, and equipment and PPE used. Heat, noise, manual tasks or use of knives and long implements may require more space. Workers must be consulted when a workstation assessment is carried out, and there should be a mix of seated and standing tasks. Seating for seated work should support the lower back and feet, with a footrest if needed, and allow leg clearance.
