The obligation
Crane inspections, tests and preventative maintenance must follow the manufacturer's instructions or those of a competent person.
This controls the risk of structural or mechanical failure, collapse and decreased safety in crane operations. Lifting procedures should be developed to define roles and responsibilities, particularly for heavy lifts, lifting work boxes and tandem or dual lifts. The inspection regime for shore-based cranes includes annual inspections, routine inspections and maintenance, and pre-operational inspections.
