The obligation
The code sets out removal procedures for particular materials, including ceiling tiles, gaskets and rope seals, and fire retardant material.
Asbestos ceiling tiles should be wrapped in a double layer of polyethylene sheeting, and waste containment, disposal and clearance inspection must follow the WHS Regulation. Gaskets and rope seals containing asbestos are generally regarded as friable; if in doubt, seek advice from a person with knowledge and experience in dealing with asbestos. Fire retardant asbestos is friable, so a Class A licensed asbestos removalist must do the work and an asbestos removal control plan must be developed.
