The obligation
Cane rail safety operators are required to meet the equivalent of a Category 2 medical standard under the NTC National Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers.
The NTC standard recommends rail operators keep a system identifying the health and fitness standards for everyone doing safety related work on the network. Workers away from duties for longer than a maintenance season, for example due to seasonal work or injury, should undergo inductions with refresher training and assessment in critical rail operations.
