The obligation
PCBUs must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of workers and others affected by their work. This is the foundational duty under the NT WHS Act.
Section 19 requires every person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable (SFAIRP), the health and safety of workers engaged or caused to be engaged by the PCBU, and others whose health or safety may be put at risk by the work. The duty covers safe plant, substances, systems of work, information, training, supervision, and a suitable work environment. Failure to comply can attract Category 1, 2, or 3 penalties.
