The obligation
Principal contractors and erecting PCBUs must prepare an erection method statement, manage exclusion zones, sequence crane lifts, and ensure elements are propped and braced until permanently fixed.
Erection of precast and tilt-up elements is the highest-risk phase. The Code requires an erection method statement prepared by a competent person; exclusion zones around all crane lifts; correct propping and bracing until elements are permanently secured; and verification that foundations and footings can accept loads. Principal contractors must coordinate all trades and ensure no work occurs in exclusion zones during lifts.
