The obligation
PCBUs must obtain or commission an asbestos register and ensure asbestos is removed before demolition commences, so far as reasonably practicable.
Before demolition work begins, the PCBU must: obtain the site's asbestos register; if no register exists, have the structure inspected by a competent person; if asbestos or ACM is found or presumed, inform the owner/occupier and managing PCBU; and ensure all asbestos likely to be disturbed is removed before demolition commences (so far as is reasonably practicable). These obligations exist under both the NT WHS Regulations and the Demolition Work Code of Practice.
