The obligation
A person required by environment protection legislation, a licence or a notice to test for matter, noise or odour must use the required test methodology.
This covers testing for the presence or concentration of matter, or for noise or odour, where the obligation to test comes from environment protection legislation or from a licence or notice issued under it. If the testing requirement itself names a methodology, that methodology must be used. Where it does not, the person must use the methodology prescribed in the Approved Methods Publication, which includes its prescribed requirements for sampling, measurement, analysis and record keeping.
