The obligation
Friable asbestos removal requires construction of negative-pressure enclosures, smoke-tested before use, and dedicated decontamination units for workers and equipment.
For all friable asbestos removal, the Code requires detailed enclosure specifications: size, shape, structure, smoke testing to confirm negative pressure, and placement of negative pressure exhaust units (NPEUs). Decontamination units (DCUs) with water, lighting, and power must be established. DCU requirements may also apply to some non-friable jobs depending on site conditions. All enclosure and DCU details must be documented in the ARCP.
