The obligation
The Code mandates appropriate RPE and protective clothing for any work disturbing ACM, referencing AS/NZS 1715:2009 and AS/NZS 1716:2012.
Workers disturbing ACM must wear protective clothing and RPE selected, used, and maintained per AS/NZS 1715:2009 (Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment) and AS/NZS 1716:2012 (Respiratory protective devices). The Code specifies RPE class requirements for different asbestos tasks and requires decontamination procedures before leaving the work area. PPE is a last-resort control and must not substitute for higher-order controls.
