The obligation
A PCBU must ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the information, training, instruction and supervision needed to protect all persons from work risks.
The Code links this to WHS Act section 19 and WHS Regulation clauses 39 and 317. Training specific to the excavation work and the site must be provided to workers by a competent person. Training should include the proper use, wearing, storage and maintenance of personal protective equipment. Specific supervision duties apply where a worker uses, generates or handles, or is likely to be exposed to, hazardous chemicals.
