The obligation
Maximum penalty for causing serious harm by radiation exposure increased from $10,000 to $2M (corporations); Pesticides Act penalties also significantly increased.
The Act amends the Radiation Act 1990 and the Pesticides Act 1999 to increase maximum penalties in line with the POEO Act reforms. Under Radiation Act s 24, the penalty for causing serious harm by radiation exposure rises from $10,000 to $2,000,000 for corporations. Corresponding increases apply to individual penalties. Pesticides Act maximum penalties are similarly elevated to ensure proportionate deterrence for environmental harm.
