The obligation
The Code applies to all WHS-Act workplaces where welding is carried out. PCBUs must manage health and safety risks from welding and allied processes (cutting, gouging, brazing, soldering).
The Model Code of Practice: Welding Processes (adopted federally and in harmonised jurisdictions) applies to every workplace covered by the WHS Act and WHS Regulations where welding is performed or where welding products and equipment are used and stored. The primary duty-holder is the PCBU. Workers must take reasonable care for their own safety and follow reasonable PCBU instructions. Allied processes (metal cutting, gouging, brazing, soldering) are also addressed.
