The obligation
Additional controls apply when spray painting or powder coating in confined spaces, including removing the object if possible, using mechanical ventilation and non-sparking tools, and protecting air-supplied respiratory lines.
When spray painting or powder coating cannot be performed outside a confined space, the Code requires: removal of the object from the confined space where possible; use of mechanical ventilation systems; use of non-sparking tools; protection of breathing lines at all times when using air-supplied respiratory devices; and appropriate PPE. These requirements supplement the general confined spaces obligations under the WHS Regulation and the Confined Spaces Code of Practice.
