The Act establishes mandatory product stewardship requirements (s.92) and frameworks for accredited voluntary and approved co-regulatory arrangements for regulated products.
Chapter 3 of the Act provides for product stewardship schemes. The Minister may make rules imposing mandatory product stewardship requirements (s.92). Businesses may participate in accredited voluntary arrangements or approved co-regulatory arrangements. The Minister holds information-gathering powers (s.143) covering compliance with mandatory requirements, accredited voluntary arrangements, and approved co-regulatory arrangements.
