The obligation
For each high risk processing of a crystalline silica substance, a PCBU must undertake air monitoring for respirable crystalline silica in accordance with regulation 50.
Where processing of a crystalline silica substance has been assessed as high risk, air monitoring for respirable crystalline silica in accordance with regulation 50 is one of the additional requirements to be met before work commences. PCBUs must provide air monitoring results to the regulator if the airborne concentration of respirable crystalline silica has exceeded the workplace exposure standards for respirable crystalline silica.
