The obligation
PCBUs engaging licensed asbestos removalists must ensure Class A/B licensing, notification, signage, barricades, access control and PPE requirements are met under the WHS Regulation.
The COP imposes specific duties on licensed asbestos removalists (Class A for friable asbestos; Class B for non-friable). Obligations include: providing regulator notification before removal work commences (telephone notice followed by written notice within 24 hours), erecting signage and barricades to delineate the removal area, limiting access to the asbestos removal area, and ensuring PPE and contaminated clothing are handled in accordance with the WHS Regulation (clauses 469–470).
