The obligation
A SWMS must be prepared before high-risk construction/demolition work begins, including any work with a fall risk exceeding 2 metres.
The CoP requires a PCBU to prepare a Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) before commencing any high-risk construction work on a demolition site. High-risk construction work includes work involving a risk of a person falling more than 2 metres, structural demolition, and work involving load-shifting machinery on suspended floors. The SWMS must identify hazards and control measures and be kept accessible on site. Further guidance is in section 3.4 of the CoP.
