The Food Act 2001 (ACT) (A2001-66) is the principal food safety statute in the ACT. It imposes duties on food businesses and food handlers to ensure food is safe and suitable for human consumption, establishes licensing and registration requirements, mandates compliance with the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, and confers inspection and enforcement powers on authorised officers. Penalties apply for non-compliant food handling and sale.
